What is Cheese Strata?

Strata is a classic breakfast casserole that originates from the Italian word for “layer.” It typically features layers of bread soaked in a rich custard made of eggs and milk, mixed with various ingredients such as cheese, vegetables, or meats. The best part? You can customize it to suit your taste preferences!

Why Choose Overnight Cheese Strata?

  1. Make-Ahead Convenience: The primary benefit of making an Overnight Cheese Strata is the ability to prepare it the night before. Simply assemble the ingredients, refrigerate overnight, and bake in the morning for a warm, hearty breakfast with minimal effort.
  2. Versatile and Customizable: This dish is incredibly versatile. You can use different types of bread (like challah, brioche, or whole grain), mix in your favorite cheeses (cheddar, mozzarella, or feta), and even add vegetables or cooked meats to tailor it to your liking.
  3. Perfect for Feeding a Crowd: Whether you’re hosting a brunch or feeding your family, this casserole can easily serve a large group. It’s filling, satisfying, and makes for great leftovers!

Tips for the Best Cheese Strata

  • Use Stale Bread: Day-old bread absorbs the custard better and adds a lovely texture.
  • Experiment with Flavors: Try adding herbs like thyme or chives for an extra burst of flavor.
  • Make It Ahead: You can prepare the strata up to two days in advance and keep it in the fridge before baking.
